Protections for LGBTQ youth in juvenile justice system

There are no federal protections – besides the Prison Rape Elimination Act – for how LGBTQ youth should be treated in the justice system. Statutes, policies and regulations protecting sexual orientation or gender identity for incarcerated kids vary significantly by state.
