The Relationship between Age and Juvenile Crime

Knowledge of how children's brains develop is often used to explain what researchers call the “age-crime curve.” There are many variations of the age-crime curve, but generally the curve shows that criminal activity increases in adolescence, peaks in the early to mid-twenties, and declines with age. Different factors can influence the age-crime curve, including race, gender, and the type of crime.
